Philips Bodine ARC Keeper® HID Backup Ballasts and e-ARC Keeper™ for 20-39 W Electronic HID Ballasts eliminate nuisance downtime in HID metal halide lighting systems and permit HID fixtures to serve as emergency lighting units. ARC Keeper and e-ARC Keeper work by preventing lamp arc loss during short-duration AC utility power disturbances that commonly threaten HID lighting systems.

HID lighting is a long-lasting, high-lumen option frequently employed in outdoor and high-bay applications. Factories, gymnasiums, hangars and parking lots are ideal locations for HID systems. Smaller, low-wattage metal halide fixtures are also found in low-ceiling applications such as retail stores and lobbies.

HID lighting is highly sensitive to even very minor AC utility power disturbances. A disturbance of four milliseconds or greater can extinguish the lamp arc, creating the need for restrike. ARC Keeper and e-ARC Keeper units sense the disturbance and act before the lamp arc is jeopardized.
