New General Manager Named

Bodine introduces its new general manager, Alex L. Ertz. Ertz replaces longtime president and general manager Al Lyons, who retired from Bodine in January.

“I’m very excited about Bodine’s future,” Ertz said. “I’m personally humbled but invigorated by the new challenges.”

Ertz began his career with Bodine in 1982 as an R&D engineer. Before assuming the role of GM, he was the company’s vice president of operations. The transition from Lyons to Ertz means the company will remain under the leadership of someone familiar with the business of being Bodine. “We will continue to be led day to day by the people closest to the business and experienced in our ways of working and with our market dynamics,” he said.

Ertz said he is honored to be associated with Bodine and to play a role in bringing to market innovative emergency lighting solutions that improve the state of the art for this aspect of life safety.

Ertz holds three U.S. patents and one Canadian patent. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, National Electrical Manufacturers Association, Canadian Standards Association (Integrated Committee on Lighting Products) and Underwriters Laboratories (Standards Technical Panel).

Since this article Alex has been named principle engineer for Bodine. His new role focuses on product technology. Alex is responsible for identifying optimal technical approaches for use with new products and determining if requisite technologies and expertise should be developed in-house or acquired externally. Alex, who most recently served as the company’s general manager, will create Bodine’s technology roadmap.
